KEKALAHAN PEMAIN HOKI LELAKI NEGERI JOHOR DI SUKMA XIII MELAKA 2010

NEGRI Sembilan turned on the heat in the second half to score an impressive 4-1 win over favourites Johor in a men’s hockey match at the Malacca Hockey Stadium yesterday to qualify for the quarter-finals as the Group B winners.
Negri will play against Group C runners-up Penang tomorrow for a place in the semi-finals while Johor, who were the runners-up at the last Games, will take on Malacca in the quarter-finals.
Forward Azraie Mohd Azizan was the toast for Negri yesterday, scoring a brace in the 28th and 51st minutes. The other scorers for Negri were Razlee Amri Mustafar (40th) and Mohd Shafiq Yaacob (56th). Johor’s goals was scored by Mohd Hafiz Nawi in the 49th minute.
Negri coach S. Chandran attributed the win to the players’ ability to execute the game plan well.
“The forwards did well to make the chances count. We also defended well and did not allow Johor’s national penalty corner flicker Baljit (Singh Sarjab) to score from five attempts,” he said.
Perak drew 1-1 with Penang to top Group C on a better goal difference and they will play against Pahang in the quarter-finals.
Perak took the lead through Mohd Hafis in the 17th minute and Penang equalised in the 44th minute with a penalty corner goal by Mohd Azri Hassan.
Terengganu edged Kelantan 5-4 to chalk up their third consecutive win in Group D and they will play against defending champions Kuala Lumpur for a place in the semi-finals.
